Photo Gallery: Hershey Track & Field Meet

Kids from 8 to 14 years old competed in the running, throwing, and jumping competition, held June 20 at Johnston High School.

On June 20, the held its annual local Hershey Track & Field Meet for children ages 8 to 14, at the Johnston Senior High School Athletic Complex, as many parents and friends were on hand to cheer for them.

Shannon Pero, who has been Johnston Recreation's Youth Sports Coordinator for the past six years, explained that 30 Johnston children took part in the competition.

It was also Bring-A-Friend night, allowing other children to take the challenge in the track & field events, including 50-, 100-, and 400-meter races, 4-by-100 relay, softball thrown, and standing long jump..

Children who placed first and second in each event will get the opportunity to compete in the state Hershey Track & Field Competition scheduled for July 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Rhode Island College.

The Rec Department is scheduled to host a cookout for the participants on June 23 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Park.
