Planning Board Gives First OK For New Briarcliffe Development

The Johnston Insider reported that the 'Cottages at Briarcliffe' proposal cleared the first hurdle on Mar. 6.

A new development at was given preliminary approval by the Johnston Planning Board on Mar. 6, the reported.

Members of the board voted 4-0 in favor of approving the master plan for a new development, called "The Cottages at Briarcliffe," which would add about 20 rooms in a roughly 10,000-sq.-ft. facility, according to an article in the newspaper's Mar. 7 edition.

The newspaper also noted that the proposal is separate from the controversial assisted living facility that earned a zone change from the town council last fall; the owner of Briarcliffe, Ashkay Talwar, told the planning board that the 60,000-sq.-ft. project has been suspended until a planned sewer expansion project is completed.
