The former Johnston resident and U.S. Army veteran passed away on July 19, 2012.

Raymond Fortin Jr., 77, of Port Charlotte, FL and previously residing in Johnston passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice In-Patient Center, Providence.

He was born in Providence, a son of the late Raymond Fortin Sr. and Ettie Marie (Richards) Fortin. Mr. Fortin was a contractor and owner of Donray Builders until his retirement. He was an Army Veteran during peacetime as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division.

Raymond was a member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks #2359 and a former member of the UCT of Johnston. And avid outdoorsman, his passions were Fishing, Mountain Climbing, Canoeing, and Camping. He was a great collector of Antiquities and lover of animals.

He is survived by his four daughters, Debra Fortin-Masse of Port Charlotte, FL; Michelle DuPont and her husband Gary of Barrington; Doreen Reilly and her husband John of Boynton Beach, FL; and Karen Fortin of Cranston. He was the grandfather of Danielle Belluscio, Michael DuPont, Justin Candeias and Isabella Reilly.

He is also survived by his former wife Betty ( Santoro ) Fortin of Johnston and his siblings, Joan Grist of Lehigh, FL; Dennis Fortin in Vermont; and Ettie Marie Courtemache of Johnston.

His visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7pm, followed by a funeral service at 7 pm in the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Roger Williams Medical Center, 825 Chalkstone Ave., Providence, RI 02909.
