Sports Brief: JHS Falls To Classical, 38-37
The Johnston High School Lady Panthers put up a solid defense and got 13 points from Karina Mattera in the Division II semifinals.

Missed foul shots and a last-second shot that went wide of the mark made the difference in the girls' Division II state semifinals game between and Classical on March 6, with the Lady Panthers dropping a 38-37 heart-stopper at Rhode Island College.
Senior captain Mary Keough led the Purple with 19, while freshmen Karina Mattera (13) and Isabella DiRaimo (11) topped the Lady Panther scoring chart.
Mattera lofted an 18-footer that went wide as time expired, and Johnston found themselves with the same result as their 2011 campaign: eliminated in the semifinals of the state tournament.
