Sports Brief: JHS Ties D-II Semis

The varsity baseball team evened their Division-II semifinal series against Woonsocket 1-1 with a 14-8 victory on June 2 at Pierce Field in East Providence.

Panther senior catcher Ryan Geraghty returned to action just five days after injuring his left shoulder on a slide into second base during Johnston's 9-8 victory over Juanita Sanchez that earned Johnston a spot in the semifinal round.

Nick Loffredo scored a two-run double in the fourth inning following a Geraghty RBI single to give Johnston an 8-5 lead. Woonsocket scored two in their half of the fourth, and the Panthers went on a 5-1 run in the later innings on their way to a game two victory.

Game 3 is scheduled for June 3 at 5 p.m. at Pierce Field.
