Suspect Arrested After Accident at Twin River

State police allege the driver hit a guard rail and then struck two occupied vehicles on a ramp to Route 146.

JOHNSTON, RI — Scott Normandin, 49, of Johnston, is being charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, and several other offenses after an accident that started on Twin River Casino property in Lincoln. According to state police, casino security were notified about a car that hit a guard rail near the intersection of Ring Road and Twin River Road around 9 on Thursday morning.

Twin River Security saw the driver continue east on Twin River Road. They provided members of the Rhode Island State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit with a description and a registration plate. The vehicle, operated by Mr. Normandin, struck two occupied vehicles near the on-ramp to Route 146 south and Twin River Road, before continuing to travel south on Route 146, police allege.

Near the Branch Avenue exit ramp, Mr. Normandin struck a third occupied vehicle, which immobilized his vehicle, police also say. He was taken into custody.

He suffered minor injuries in the mishap and will be arraigned after his release from Rhode Island Hospital.

In addition to the drunk driving charge, he is also being charged with chemical test refusal; (2) two counts of duty to stop in an accident resulting in damage to attended vehicle; and duty in accident resulting in damage to highway fixtures.
