They Brought The Funk
The Johnston High School Marching Band performed as part of the Columbus Day Parade on Federal Hill on Oct. 9.
's marching band took part in the annual Columbus Day Parade on Federal Hill, held Oct. 9 in Providence.
Thousands of people lined Atwells Avenue to watch the procession on the warm and sunny afternoon to celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus arriving in the New World.
Led by the JHS color guard in navy blue with light blue lettering, the local corps was part of Division II, which also included classic fire trucks and veterans' groups.
During a stop at De Pasquale Square, the band launched into a spirited version of P-Funk's "Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)," with the drum line setting the metronomic pace behind the melody groove set by the woodwinds and punctuated with blares from the brass section.
