Town Council Meeting — June 13

The Johnston Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Court.

The Johnston Town Council is scheduled to hold a second vote tonight on changes to the recently-created Retirement Board which would allow police officers and firefighters with at least five years' experience to serve on the pension review panel.

Currently, members of the police and fire departments must have 10 years' experience to be considered eligible for the board. At its May meeting, the council held the first reading on the change to Ordinance 47-39, which was requested by members of the police and fire unions.

With a vote of approval tonight, the new eligibility requirements will go into effect.

Also on the agenda tonight are the possible creation of a new section to the Town Charter that governs cell phone towers; consideration of several business licenses; and requests for temporary liquor licenses by St. Rocco Church and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
