Week in Review: Chafee, Pensions, AcaDec, Campfires, Porn Sweep
From the governor's visit to the town council meeting to the identity of a suspect in the State Police "Operation Darknet," here are the major headlines from the week ending Apr. 11, 2012.
Chafee: On Monday night, Gov. Lincoln Chafee attended the Johnston Town Council meeting to ask for councilors' backing of seven bills he's recently submitted to the General Assembly. The council approved a resolution in support of the municipal aid package by a 5-0 vote.
Pensions: Mayor Joseph Polisena, a member of the state's municipal pension study committee, said this week that he doesn't believe the panel will have a bill to submit before the General Assembly adjourns in the summer.
AcaDec: Students on the Academic Decathlon team made what amounts to a victory tour this week, as they were recognized at both the town council and school committee meetings.

Campfires: There are still two months or so left to form your team for this year's Campfires for Cancer fundraiser, to be held at Johnston Memorial Park on June 23.
Porn Sweep: On Thursday, we were first to report that a Johnston man (and former part-time employee of the Johnston School District) was among the suspects arrested by Rhode Island State Police on charges of child pornography possession as part of "Operation Darknet."
