Week In Review: Vandalism, Gas Pump, Playoffs, Budget
Did you miss any of these stories on JohnstonPatch? Here's your chance to catch up with the news that made the news for the week ending Mar. 8, 2012.

Vandalism: Someone — or some group of someones — apparently drove a vehicle or vehicles onto two local sports fields last weekend. Mayor Joseph Polisena, clearly upset by the damage, held a press conference Monday at the town soccer complex to tour the damage and vow that the culprits would be caught. We also noted that the surveillance camera at the complex may have recorded some of the incident — and awaited official word on whether any arrests had been made.
Gas Pump: The new town-owned gas filling station at the Johnston Police Department neared completion this week, with a canopy installed and Gill Services workers digging the footing for a new paved driveway.
Playoffs: I'm stepping outside of my editorial box for just a minute to send the Johnston High School Lady Panthers varsity squad a message: You gals are a class act. Coach Chris [with whom I attended Bishop Hendricken about a million years ago] properly credited you with leaving your hearts out on the floor during the D-II semifinals — and, even though the game didn't go your way, you still left the court as winners in the hearts of your families and friends.

Budget: Ah, yes, town budget season is upon us, with the school board scheduled to start deliberations on their fiscal 2013 spending plan next week. Mayor Polisena offered this in describing his approach: "Level funding for everybody."
