Where To Report Fallen Trees, Wires

Here's what to do if you see downed trees or utility wires near your home.

has come and gone, leaving fallen trees and utility wires around Johnston.

Here is a list of tips on what to do, provided by Mayor's Administrative Assistant Janet Whiteley during a phone interview on Aug. 29:

  • Don't touch utility wires. If you see a tree that has fallen into electrical wires, contact National Grid at (800) 322-3223. Do not attempt to remove the branches or trees. With the high volume of trees that the company has to clear, it may take a couple of days for crews to respond, Whiteley explained.
  • Call Town Hall to schedule tree removal. The town can not remove any trees that have come into contact with utility wires; for trees that are lying in roads and not touching electrical lines, residents can call Town Hall at 351-6618.
  • Bundle small branches and twigs. Patriot Disposal is the town's contractor to pick up bundles of small branches and twigs. Whiteley said the company recommends that residents form bundles that are 3-feet--by-three-feet in size and leave them at the curb for pick-up. "If Patriot wil not pick them up, [residents] can call Town Hall and we'll refer it to the DPW," Whiteley said.
  • Report power outages. Call National Grid at (800) 465-1212 or visit this website to inform the company of electrical outages.
