Whiz Kids: JHS Junior Varsity Baseball Team
This week, we recognize the junior varsity team at Johnston High School, who recently won their division title.
Names: Rubens Grullen, Alex Denoncour, Matthew Chapman, Joe Bongiovanni, Justin Simao, Ryan Silva, Joey Santilli, Sal Palermo, Jared Podmaska, Zach Coro, Ryan McKeon, Zach DeSimone, Alex Tenerella, Nick Cabral, James Picchi, Devin Leary, T. J. Cahill — Johnston High School junior varsity baseball.
Accomplishment: The junior varsity Panthers secured the Division II North title on May 28 with a decisive 10-0 victory over Woonsocket.
Key To Awesomeness: Peaking at just the right time. With the regional championship on the line, the Panthers put together a nearly-perfect game, with Bongiovani — who has also pictched for the varsity squad — holding the Villa Novans scoreless and adding his own two-run triple to open up the Johnston lead.

Santilli, Grullon, Podmaska and Simao also tallied scores on the way to the victory.
“I was expecting a war, but we just put it all together in one day," coach Ed Bedrosian said after the contest. "I’m proud of them."
