LINCOLN, RI — The Rhode Island State Police have revealed the type of article a Providence woman was charged with throwing at a moving vehicle earlier this month.
Carmen Cortes was arrested July 18 on charges of throwing an article at a moving vehicle and vandalism, the state police said in a media release that did not specify what the article in question might be.
The state police have since released a police report detailing the incident. The article turned out to be an iced coffee, according to the report.
Cortes threw the iced coffee at the windshield of a 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross on Old Louisquisset Pike in Lincoln in March, the report said, and followed this by making "multiple closed fisted strikes at the front right quarter panel" of the SUV.
The Corolla Cross was driven by a cousin of Cortes with whom she apparently does not get along, according to the report.
"It should be noted that (the cousin) and Cortes are directly
related and that (they) previously had issues in the past and had a No Contact Order with (the cousin) as the protected party," the report said, noting that the order had expired by the time the iced coffee was supposedly thrown.
Following the incident, a trooper "observed a residue of ice coffee on the windshield and damage on the right front side quarter panel of (the cousin's) vehicle that aligns up with
closed fisted strikes," the report said.
Cortes' case remains pending.
