Capsized Canoe Sparks Search Of Lincoln's Olney Pond

LINCOLN, RI — A capsized canoe sparked a daylong search of Olney Pond.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management was alerted to the overturned canoe in the pond in Lincoln Woods State Park about 8 a.m. Thursday, DEM Programming Services Officer Evan LaCross said in an email.

"Environmental Police from DEM’s Division of Law Enforcement, the Lincoln, Central Falls, and Cumberland Fire Departments, and dive teams responded searching both the water and surrounding shoreline," LaCross said.

No body was located before the search was called off for the day Thursday afternoon.

First responders shared images of the canoe in hopes of identifying its owner.

"Anyone with information about the canoe is urged to contact DEM’s 24/7 dispatch at 401-222-3070," LaCross said.
