Car Thief Suspect Arrested in Cranston

State police arrested David A. Traynum, 38, of no known address. He was wanted in Portsmouth and in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Police responded to West View Road on April 19 after several residents reported someone broke into their cars. One resident told police his car had been stolen. When last seen, the red Toyota Camry was parked in the driveway. In all, police said, six people had been robbed.

After investigating, Middletown detectives learned David Traynum was wanted for felonies in Middletown and in Portsmouth. The department requested help from the state police Violent Fugitive Task Force. Then on May 4, Middletown patrol Ofc. Tyler D. Trott and members of the task force saw the suspect on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston. He was riding in the front seat of a black Nissan Maxima. When the car turned into a Cumberland Farms, police arrested Traynum, 38.

He was charged with one felony for larceny over $1,500, and with eight misdemeanors. Seven misdemeanors were for larcenies (under $1,500) from a car on West View and on Valley roads. One misdemeanor was for injuring or tampering with vehicles (also on West View Road). He was also wanted on two warrants, police said.
