Islanders Seize Second Season Win
Turnovers proved to be key to Middletown's 33-0 league-opening victory against Classical High School Friday night.
Middletown Islanders played déjà vu against Classical High School Friday night, beating them by only one more point than they did Central Falls last week.
Turnovers were key in Middletown's 33-0 league-opening victory. In the first half, the Islander's great defense led to offense when defensive back Randy Butler had a pivotal pick six to put Middletown on the board. Similarly, the secondary forced another interception in the later part of the first half which led to another touchdown. Behind a big play defense flying to the ball, Middletown led 13-0 at half time.
"Our defense was the story, especially in the first half," said coach Andrew Leyes. "Our offense couldn't sustain anything due to penalties."

Eventually the Islander offense would awake behind the tough running of quick quarterback , Dylan Gracia and explosive running back Ricardo Mccray.
Although Mccray and Gracia only combined for approximately 130 yards rushing, they kept the chains moving and the clock ticking. The ground-and-pound style of offense allowed the defense to stay fresh and fast.

On another note, Gracia delivered his first touchdown pass of the season to senior tight end Joshua Flynn on a 25-yard strike to essentially seal the fate of Classical and put the game out of reach.
The team will look to continue their winning ways through opportunistic defense and a physical running attack when they welcome Narragansett High School next Friday night at Gaudet Middle School.
