Judge Dismisses Charges in Cemetery Desecration Case

Two men involved in the vandalism at Island Cemetery had their charges dismissed.


Two man accused of vandalizing hundreds of graves at in Newport have had their charges dropped, according to a report from WPRI.

A judge dismissed charges against Andrew Fowler, 20, and Richard Mounts, 37, because a third man involved in the incident was not able to be located, the report says.

Approximately 238 headstones, grave stones and statues had been damaged in the incident, resulting in $125,000 of damage.

Fulvi and Mounts were then arraigned at the 2nd Division District Court on May 12, 2011.

In July 2011, stating that those who deface cemeteries or public monuments will face stiffer penalties and will be required to pay for the cost of the damage.
