Lady Islanders Dominate Rival Vikings at Rogers
Middletown High School's Lady Islanders won 3-1 in Monday's match against rival Rogers, led by Nina Traglia's two goals.
If moving up a division this year was to intimidate the Lady Islanders' varsity soccer team, then their power, accuracy and finesse are making up the difference. Playing their rival, the Rogers Vikings, the Middletown Islanders dominated Monday's soccer game for a 3-1 victory while away at Rogers.
The Islanders broke out to a two-goal lead in the first half and never looked back. Nina Traglia led her team, scoring two goals in the event. But how the goals were scored on all three Islander attempts should be recognized. Each goal was scored from at least 20 yards out, proving the Islanders' power and accuracy and forewarning all defenses to be encountered this year.
Rogers did come back hungry in the second half to cut the score to 2-1, but overall was still no match for the Islanders throughout the game. The offensive front line again dominated the match, joined by a midfield led by Traglia, Kirsten Perry, who scored the Islanders' second goal, and Chelsea Dowler, who did not notch a goal but put on consistent pressure that became a constant problem for Rogers' defense.

The power the Islanders showed was impressive. Traglia's first goal was from the left corner about 25 yards out, then Perry's goal--another 20+ yarder--was another strike from the right, and Traglia's final goal was a straight away shot from 25 yards out that put the Vikings away.
Kirsten Perry did receive a green card for a pretty hard hit in the corner in the 80th minute of the match and will have to be careful in the next match against Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday.
