Lifeguard Games Return to Sachuest Point
Lifeguards from all over Rhode Island hit the beach in Middletown this weekend for the annual Rhode Island Lifeguard Competition.
The Rhode Island Lifeguard Competition returns to Middletown this Saturday to cap off a week of exciting events held throughout the state.
Saturday's Tug-O-War at Second Beach should draw a big crowd, along with a paddle rescue and women's swim relay, according to a recent blog SUMOskinny shared with South Kingstown Patch.
For the first time ever, the Good Ol' Boys--a team of older ex-lifeguards--return to compete against today's lifeguards from Narragansett Beach, East Matunuck, Roger Wheeler, Westerly, Misquamicut, Newport and Scarborough.

Events this week kicked off at Narragansett beach on Monday with the mile run, mile paddle, mile row, mile swim and mile kayak. The competition brought lifeguards to Westerly on Tuesday with the boat rescue, paddle relay and row relay, and tonight move to Misquamicut State Beach for the crowning of the King and Queen lifeguards who outswim, outpaddle, and outrow their competitors.
Thursday night, catch the lifeguards performing ocean rescues at East Matunuck. They meet up again Friday night for the Men's and Women's Medley and Torp Race at Scarborough Beach before their final showdown in Middletown on Saturday.
