Updated: Middletown Firefighters Make Fast Work of 2-Alarm Fire
Two families are displaced for the night after a fire around 2:43 p.m. Sunday on Bristol Road (in a neighborhood behind West Main Road).

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a 2-alarm fire at 10B Bristol Road. Fire Marshal Ron McCall said no one was injured, and the fire, which is still under investigation, was confined to the exterior of the house.

At this time, the cause is not considered suspicious, he said.
The firefighters had the blaze just about extinguished in 10 minutes, he said, but because the home's electrical service is in the same area as the fire, the crews had to wait for National Grid to arrive and cut power before they could go further into that section of the house and make sure it was all out.

Newport, the Navy base and Portsmouth provided mutual aid, he said.
No one was at home when the fire started, he said.

There are two tenants in the house. One family is staying with an employer for the night, and the other family is making accommodations. They cannot stay there tonight because there is no electrical service, but the interior of the house was not damaged.
