Prospect Bridge Project On Schedule

Work to replace Middletown's Prospect Avenue bridge is progressing on schedule so far, with completion planned by early February.

A town project to replace the deteriorating bridge on Prospect Avenue, near the intersection of Paradise Avenue, has been underway for three weeks, and Town Engineer Warren Hall reports the status of the work:

  • Installed twin 24-inch-diameter bypass pipes that allow the Maidford River to flow during construction.
  • Installed upstream and downstream dams, diverting flows to the bypass pipes.
  • Currently installing shoring system that will allow for excavation and installation of footings.

The work schedule for next week includes complete excavation and installation of the foundation for the culvert and wing walls, according to Hall. “The project is on schedule, however weather dependent,” Hall said.

During construction, Prospect Avenue is closed to thru traffic, and local residents must access the road via Aquidneck Avenue. The work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, February 3, according to town officials. For more information, contact the Public Works Department, 846-2119.
