Warren Man Charged with Felony Drug Possession after Traffic Stop

Middletown Police also seized a cache of law enforcement-related equipment including police lights, batons, handcuffs and a badge.

A 46-year-old Warren man is facing felony drug charges after officers found heroin, suboxone pills and marijuana in his car after he was stopped for speeding on West Main Road in Middletown.

Middletown police said Dennis M. Akervik, of 60 Child St., was stopped on Aug. 24 at around 10:29 p.m. and police noted his black Volvo convertible had several law enforcement stickers, including a “thin blue line” sticker commonly used by law enforcement officers on their personal vehicles.

But Akervick is no law enforcement officer, police said, and they soon found a small bag containing heroin tucked in a visor, another baggie of heroin in the center console, 38 suboxone pills in the glove compartment and about a gram of marijuana in a compartment in the middle of the back seat.

Police said they became suspicious when they could smell burning marijuana coming from his car, which had the top open.

Police also found $813 cash in his right pocket and $3,603 in his wallet.

Akervik reportedly told police that the drugs are “stuff I like to party with sometimes.”
Police also seized a Department of the Treasury special agent badge, two sets of handcuffs, two expandable batons, a blue line LED law enforcement flashlight and a portable police strobe light.

Akervik was released on cash bail and is due to appear in Second Division District Court on Oct. 9 for an attorney general screening conference.
