Woman Rear-Ends Police Cruiser By Newport Creamery
A Fall River, Mass., woman was charged with Driving under the influence after she bumped a police car stopped on West Main Road.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Desiree Cidade, 26, of Fall River, Mass., was charged with Driving under the influence on May 20 at 2:05 a.m. According to the arrest report, she allegedly rear-ended a police cruiser parked in front of the Newport Creamery on West Main Road. The officer reported he was in pain but able to walk. Cidade refused medical treatment.

On May 22, Joseph M. Gallagher 60, of Portsmouth, was stopped near the corner or East Main Road and Oliphant Lane. He was charged at 11:50 p.m. with Driving under the influence and Refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police had set up cruisers to block the road, due to a serious accident in Portsmouth. Despite the flashing emergency lights and officers directing traffic, they allege Gallagher drove towards the cruisers and came close to hitting one of the officers.

On May 19 at 9:15 a.m. Stephen B. White, 34, of Dartmouth, Mass., was stopped on West Main Road near East Bay Village. He wanted on two bench warrants, police allege.
On May 19 at 11:25 a.m., Mary A. Heney, 37, of Wareham, Mass., was taken into custody at a traffic stop on West Main Road near the Mobil station. She was wanted on a court warrant, police allege. Officers took her to Newport District Court to be arraigned. She was also cited for not wearing a seat belt.

Danielle Cushing, 31, of South Kingstown, was charged on May 19 at 7:18 p.m. with Driving under the influence. An officer stopped her car in front of the Ocean State Laundromat on West Main Road. She was cited for lane violations, obedience to devices and following too close.
