2 Rhode Island Hospitals Earn 5-Star Ratings From Medicare
The agency's Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2023 include 54 more 5-star hospitals than last year.
RHODE ISLAND — Two Rhode Island hospitals and medical centers were given 5-star ratings, the best possible rating, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid said.
There are among 483 hospitals nationwide who received the coveted CMS 5-star rating based on their performance across five categories measuring quality of care.
The agency’s Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2023 include 54 more 5-star hospitals than last year.

The following Rhode Island hospitals received the top ratings:
- South County Hospital, Wakefield
- The Miriam Hospital, Providence.
The Medicare star rating system takes into account information from hospitals on mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experiences, and the timeliness and effectiveness of care.
