3 Rhode Island Communities Among Top 150 Small Towns In U.S.: Report

Family Destinations Guide recognizes the highest ranking Rhode Island town, Narragansett, for its sandy beaches and historic lighthouses.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Rhode Island might be the smallest state in the U.S., but that doesn't mean there aren't some big hidden gems for vacation spots.

Family Destinations Guide, a website offering kid-friendly vacation ideas, surveyed 3,000 families to find the top 150 small towns to visit in the U.S. — and three towns from Rhode Island made the cut.

The highest ranking town in Rhode Island in Family Destinations Guide's rankings was Narragansett. Narragansett came in at No. 24.

"Miles of sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, and quaint fishing villages offer a quintessential New England coastal escape," Family Destinations Guide Anika Turner writer said.

The other two Ocean State communities that made the list include Westerly and Tiverton. Westerly came in at No. 55, while Tiverton was No. 135.

"Visiting small towns has become increasingly popular as travelers seek authentic and personalized experiences that provide a break from the fast-paced, commercialized world," Rose Ackermann, the website's executive editor, said. "These hidden gems offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture, connect with friendly communities, and escape the stress of everyday life."
