5 Things: Blood Drive, Books and Meetings

1. Save a life or three today. The Rhode Island South County Donor Center will be holding a blood drive today at Clock Tower Plaza Bloodmobile, located at 730 Kingstown Road in Wakefield.

2. Foster some family bonds today at the , 1057 Kingstown Road. Girls in grades 4th - 6th and their mothers, mentors, and friends are invited to attend the Mother-Daughter Book Club at 6:30 p.m. This month the group will share books and make recommendations, decorate a take-home journal and vote for the February book. Hot chocolate and popcorn will be served.

3. Today in local government:

The School Committee will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library, 215 Columbia St., Wakefield. The committee will discuss its budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year. It must be submitted to the Town Council for approval next month. Click here to see the agenda.

The Planning Board will meet today at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 180 High St., South Kingstown. The board will vote on applications for the construction of model units at two different SK subdivisions before a work session to discuss the Washington County Regional Planning Project. • The Prout School's girls' varsity swimming team will race against Barrington High School tonight at 5:45 p.m. at the Bayside Family YMCA, located at 70 West St. in Barrington.
• The Prout School boys' varsity swimming team will race against Barrington High School tonight at 5:45 p.m., also at the Bayside Family YMCA.
