5 Things: Budget, Sports and Yoga

Five things to know on Monday, Jan. 23:

1. Our town meetings:

The Town Council will meet today at 7:30 p.m. that the Town Hall, 180 High St., Wakefield. A work session prior to the meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m.

The council will hold a public hearing before adopting a six-year capital improvement plan. Click here to see  copy of the document. The council will also discuss its position on redistricting tonight. For the full agenda, click here.

The Housing Authority will meet today at 5 p.m. in its office, located at 364 Curtis Corner Road, South Kingstown. For the agenda, click here.

2. High school sports:

South Kingstown High School will host a gymnastics meet at the high school, 215 Columbia St., Wakefield at 5 p.m. today against Portsmouth and Coventry.

The will play against Classical High School today at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, 215 Columbia St., Wakefield.

The Prout School boys' varsity basketball team faces off against North Smithfield today at 7 p.m. in an away game located at 412 Greenville Ave., North Smithfield. The junior varsity teams will play a game at 5:15 p.m.

3. Seniors, if you want to improve health through relaxation and breathing techniques, relieve stress, improves flexibility and slow the ageing process, head over to The Center, 25 Saint Dominic Road, Wakefield, and check out a yoga class today at 10:30 a.m. with Richard and Cynthia.

4. It's time for a weekly drop-in to the Peace Dale Library, 1057 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown, for fun with books and stories, music, fingerplays and action rhymes, puppets, crafts, and more! Registration is not required, but babies who are not walking yet should come in with a parent or guardian at 9:30 a.m. and another story will start at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers up to two years.

5. Cloud cover will keep skies mostly gray today, with chances of rain and fog in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise into the 40s during the day.
