2. There's a lot to know today as far as local government is concerned:

• The Economic Development Committee meeting scheduled for today is canceled.
• The Renewable Energy Siting Partnership Project will hold its sixth stakeholder meeting today at 6 p.m. at the University of Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay classroom, 218 South Ferry Road, Narragansett. Learn more here.

• The Broad Rock Middle School Parent Teacher Organization will meet today at 6:30 p.m. at the Broad Rock Middle Schoo, 351 Broad Rock Road, Wakefield.

3. The Education Exchange will host the VITA free tax preparation and filing program for people with an income of less than $49,000. All VITA volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS.

The program runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3-6:30 p.m. from Jan. 24 to April 12 at its headquarters, 33 North Road, Wakefield.

• The South Kingstown High School boys' basketball team hits the courts todat at 7 p.m. against East Providence, 2000 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence./ Junion varsity plays at 5:30 p.m.
• The South Kingstown High School boys' varsity swim team and the girls' varsity swim team will compete today at 3:30 p.m. in a meet against Cranston East High School at the Park View Middle School, 25 Park Ave., Cranston.
