6 URI Students Arrested in Super Bowl Riot

A South Kingstown police officer was hit in the head with a full beer can and another suffered a sprained wrist, according to NBC 10.

Six University of Rhode Island students were arrested Sunday night during a riot following the New England Patriots Super Bowl victory.

A YouTube video showed students lighting fireworks and throwing snowballs at lamp posts—damaging some of them.

NBC 10 reported as police responded to the scene, a South Kingstown police officer was hit in the head with a full beer can and another officer suffered a sprained wrist.

“All it takes is a small group to ruin what would have been an otherwise peaceful celebration,” Stephen Baker, of the university’s Department of Public Safety, told NBC 10.
