Aquatic Weed Treatments Scheduled for South Kingstown's Worden Pond

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Aquatic weed treatments were scheduled for South Kingstown's Worden Pond.

The pond will be treated for the invasive aquatic plant hydrilla Friday, Aug. 7, "with periodic repeated treatments through November," the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said in a media release.

"These treatments will not harm fish and will not impact boating, fishing, or swimming," the release said.

"Invasive aquatic plants degrade the diverse habitats that native fish, insects, and other wildlife depend on for food and shelter," Terry Gray, the director of the department of environmental management, said in the release.

"Managing these invasive species is essential to protecting the ecosystem, preserving water quality, and ensuring continued recreational access to our lakes and rivers," Gray said.
