NARRAGANSETT, RI — The Town of Narragansett cleared up information about the state-run coronavirus test site at South Road Elementary to reduce resident confusion. The site is open daily and provides COVID-19 tests to residents without symptoms.

The site is walk-through, unlike other drive-through sites. Masks must be worn while at the facility. Appointments are encouraged, and can be made online at portal.ri.gov, but are not required. If there is high demand, priority will be given to those who have an appointment.

The tests used at the South Road site are PCR localized nasal swabs, not the high nasal tests frequently used earlier in the pandemic are reported to be more painful. Results are usually available within 24 to 36 hours after the test is administered.
