Underpinning the sensationalism of battle reports &amp; broadsides is the often silent steadiness of women’s work with textiles. The choices they made every day about fashion and fabric consumption &amp; creation drove the course of Revolution just as determinedly as any congress. As southern New England commemorates the 250th anniversary (semiquincentennial) of the War for Independence, it is these local lives dressed in full wool or spun silk that continue to inspire creativity, resilience, and empathy in us today. From the mythology of homespun to legends of midnight rides in red cloaks &amp; calashes, the Dirty Blue Shirts share stories of women who waged war on multiple fronts as well as a look at what they wore as their worlds turn’d upside down. This program is presented by costumed historians and includes reproduction clothing pieces &amp; fabric samples as well as a PowerPoint presentation with images of extant originals.

The Web They Wove: Women & Their Wardrobes During New England's Revolution

Join us for a unique and artful experience at our Stoneware Pottery Painting Workshop at Rebekah Cook Art.
Add&nbsp;a splash of summer with our “Beach Vibes Technique” stoneware class. We&nbsp;will layer beautiful glazes to create stunning pottery pieces thatexpress the tranquility of water meeting sand.



Whether&nbsp;you’re a novice or a seasoned potter, this workshop offers a delightful&nbsp;way to unleash your inner artist as you craft a beautiful piece ofmicrowave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe stoneware.&nbsp;You&nbsp;will also enjoy light refreshments provided by Rebekah, included with&nbsp;your $20 registration/workshop fee. BYOB welcome. We will have a variety&nbsp;of stoneware to choose from on the day of the event.

Local Author Debra Zannelli Book Signing at Wakefield Books, 10am to noon. In Sister World: The Arrival, we are introduced to Terah, a planet in an alternate universe that is a mirror of Earth. Terah is at war, and their despotic ruler is bringing the war to Earth. The fate of Terah is in the hands of Kahill and Becarra, who brave the wormhole connecting both worlds to search for their mirrors and find a way to warn our world of the quiet invasion and help Earth fight to keep her freedom. Debra Zannelli began writing in high school, but put it aside for many years, returning to it in 1996, while recovering from surgery to remove a non-cancerous brain tumor, and completing her first book, Dark Night of The Soul. She is now the author of eight published novels, while also working as a teacher’s assistant. Inspired by both the insights, courage and resiliency of our youth, she wrote her Sister World Series with just a touch of whimsy as well as science that has been meticulously researched. Join us for a hands-on clay experience at Rebekah Cook Art, where you’ll hand-build your very own one-of-a-kind sushi server! 
No experience necessary — just bring your creativity and a love for
getting your hands dirty. Using traditional hand-building techniques,
you’ll shape and sculpt a unique piece that’s as functional as it is
beautiful.
We’ll make each server on June 7th and then you will return to
finish off your design during open studio hours.. Whether you’re a
seasoned crafter or a first-time clay enthusiast, this is the perfect
afternoon to slow down, get creative, and make something truly special.

Rustic-chic private farm venue in scenic Stonington, CT 

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf. The property can be rented for weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Additionally, the bed and breakfast can be rented by the room or reserved in its entirety for complete privacy. The Farm has the ability to host small private indoor events for up to 50 guests in the Farmhouse. Outdoor tented events are our specialty, with numerous locations on-site that are picturesque for your celebration. Outdoor tented celebrations can accommodate up to 250 guests.
