The Coast Guard House Restaurant

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Coast Guard House is excited to introduce Sound Waves, a new weekly vinyl DJ series set on the restaurant’s upper deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The iconic views, nostalgic tracks, and exceptional culinary experience is the perfect setting for summer. 

"At Coast Guard House, we're always looking for ways to create memorable experiences that bring people together," said Bob Leonard, manager &amp; co-owner of Coast Guard House. "Sound Waves will combine incredible oceanfront views, great food and drinks, and the unique energy of vinyl music. It's exactly the kind of experience we want to offer our guests throughout the summer season."

Each Thursday, Providence-based DJ Dayglow will spin an eclectic mix of vinyl records from around the world, creating a soundtrack that blends nostalgia, discovery, and summer energy. Known for her joyful and engaging sets, DJ Dayglow will connect Sound Waves attendees with beloved classics and unexpected gems alike. 

“My sets are always joyful and nostalgic,” says DJ Dayglow. “This is the perfect place to be reminded of music that you haven't heard in a long time and connect with old and new friends."

Set against the backdrop of one of Rhode Island’s most iconic oceanfront destinations, Sound Waves offers the perfect opportunity to unwind after a long week with great music, handcrafted cocktails, and sweeping waterfront views. Sound Waves will run every Thursday beginning June 11 through August 27, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Coast Guard House, located at 40 Ocean Road in Narragansett.

Willi Ninja: Vogue Legend&nbsp;is an inspiring story of the incomparable dancer Willi Ninja, Grandfather of Vogue and star of the film Paris Is Burning. With an accessible text and dynamic illustrations, Joy Michael Ellison and Nabi H. Ali trace Willi’s path against the odds as he brings his signature moves to the dance style known as vogue and finds his spotlight at the Harlem drag balls where a performer known as Willi Ninja is born. Providing context, community, and comprehension of queer and trans culture for young history buffs, the lively narrative is followed by back matter delving into more details about Willi Ninja and what life was like during his time. Joy Michael Ellison is a writer, a professor of Gender and Women’s Studies at University of Rhode Island, and a grassroots, community activist. Their published books include Sylvia and Marsha Start a Revolution! They are interested in using stories, both fictional and true, to build community, document social movements, and imagine a liberated world, and believe that storytelling is integral to healing, transformation, resistance, and survival. Winifred Starbuck, forbidden from joining her parents on their final merchant voyage, does what any strong-willed eighteen-year-old would do: she stows away. As she drifts farther from shore, she uncovers a long-buried secret, and as she continues to chart her own course, she’ll have to plumb the depths of her courage to take on a world far bigger—and more dangerous—than she ever imagined. Julie Gerstenblatt is the author of Daughters of Nantucket, which won the New England Society Book Award for Fiction. She holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University and has taught everything from middle school English to graduate studies. Her essays have appeared in Huffington Post and Grown &amp; Flown, among others. A native New Yorker who has been visiting Nantucket since childhood, Julie now lives in coastal Rhode Island with her family and one very smart shichon poo. Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf. The property can be rented for weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Additionally, the bed and breakfast can be rented by the room or reserved in its entirety for complete privacy. The Farm has the ability to host small private indoor events for up to 50 guests in the Farmhouse. Outdoor tented events are our specialty, with numerous locations on-site that are picturesque for your celebration. Outdoor tented celebrations can accommodate up to 250 guests.
