Although, I am not, terribly consumed with 'technology', I do, indeed, LOVE, certain, aspects of it. I do believe, that, one of my FAVORITE, still, is the 'Caller-ID'. I'm not gonna lie...I will NOT answer a call with a phone-number I do not recognize; I figure if the nature of the call is important enough, a 'message' will be left on my next favorite-device...the 'answering-machine'. It strikes me as odd, though, that, often, a party with whom I wish to speak, and, am awaiting a call from, e.g., a doctor's office, pharmacist, etc., will call in on a 'Private' number. Does this make sense to you? The LAST call I'm going to answer is one with NO number provided. I get a number of automated, 'nuisance'-calls, from various, sources,( even after adding my number to the 'No-Call Registry, I might add ) some, which, previously came in as '800' numbers, and, are now using a '401' exchange. Guess these, 'businesses' think they're clever, hiding under the 'guise' of a local-exchange; Heck, they don't know who they're dealing with. Still, I feel that 'disregarding' the call is a whole, lot better than 'hanging-up' on a persistent and pesky 'telemarketer'; although, most of today's calls are more, 'automated' and less-likely to involve a 'real' person. I do have a certain, amount of 'compassion' for these, folks, as, 'once upon a time, in 'another-life' I worked in a business which required me to make 'cold-calls'; this, the act of going through a local, phone-directory, and, calling ANYONE, in the hopes of making a sale...NOT fun! So, I know how frustrating a 'job' this can be; still...I'm NOT going to make the lives of these, poor-souls, ANY, easier. Or, actually, perhaps, by my 'ignoring' them, I, actually, AM assisting them, as it sure 'beats' getting 'reamed-out' by an irate, 'potential'-customer, right? As far as I'm concerned, 'they' oughtta be thankin' me! Stopping the 'calls' would be a GREAT-place to begin! Just Sayin'...
