Crews Knock Down Fire In South Road Home On Thursday

The family had to leave for the night because the power was cut, but the damage is minor, the fire department said.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—A fire started in a South Road basement on Thursday afternoon but was brought under control in about 20 minutes. Deputy Chief Lance Whalley said everyone got out safely, and there were no injuries.

The state fire marshal is still investigating the cause, he said. The fire broke out around 2:34 p.m. near an electrical panel. The family of four adults and four children had to spend the night with loved ones because the power was cut to the building. But the damage to the house was minor. They will be able to return.
