Anais Mitchell with Rachel Ries
Music at Lily Pads
February 25, 2012
doors 7pm, music 7:30pm
Lily Pads is very happy to welcome back Vermont-based artist Anaïs Mitchell on Saturday, February 25. Her fourth album, Young Man in America, is coming out Feb. 28th, but will be available at the show. After hearing a legal advance copy, we have to say it's a wonderful piece of work, musically and lyrically rich, with a wide range of guest artists helping out.
On tour, Anaïs is backed by the Young Man Band, featuring Rachel Ries, great songwriter and performer in her own right. Rachel opens the show with a set of her own. Rachel accompanied Anais in November 2010 at Lily Pads.
Young Man in America follows Mitchell’s critically beloved 2010 folk opera Hadestown, a modern retelling of the Orpheus myth set in a Depression-era America. Hadestown, which features guest singers Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Ani Difranco, and Ben Knox-Miller (the Low Anthem), landed her on numerous “Best of 2010” lists, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Observer.
Anaïs is a riveting performer, at her creative peak. We hope to see you in the audience February 25th.
Tickets are $16 advance, $18 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Sweet Cakes in Peace Dale, the Alternative Food Co-op and Looney Tunes II in Wakefield, and online at Brown Paper Tickets.
