Johnny Nicholas at the Knickerbocker Cafe for a special appearance
Sunday, May 6th at 8:00 pm!
Texas bluesman and Rhode Island native Johnny Nicholas will be back at his old stomping grounds at the Knickerbocker Café for a special appearance on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.
Johnny is riding high since the release of last year's Future Blues CD, his first collection of new material since 2005’s Livin With the Blues. The album, produced by Bruce Hughes (Jason Mraz, The Resentments,Texas Sheiks) features a cast of stellar players who guested on the various tracks: Cindy Cashdollar (Van Morrison, Bob Dylan), John Chipman (Band of Heathens), Joel Guzman (Joe Ely), “Scrappy” Jud Newcomb (The Resentments, Ian McLagan), and some special guests such as Sam Broussard and David Greely (Steve Riley’s Mamou Playboys) and blues guitarist extraordinaire, Jimmie Vaughan.
The compositions are mostly new original Nicholas material rooted in the venerable traditions of country blues, acoustic music; Texas soul; and the ancestral, rich musical tapestry of the South.
Johnny toured the country to rave reviews, played the Hell Blues Festival in Norway with his pal, Duke Robillard and is gearing up for spring and summer dates to come.
He has a long blues pedigree behind him, from his early musical alliances on the East Coast scene with Duke Robillard (Roomful of Blues) and Fran Cristina (The Fabulous Thunderbirds) to recording and touring with legends like Big Walter Horton, Robert Pete Williams, Johnny Shines and Snooky Prior.

Johnny Nicholas is an extremely engaging innovative traditionalist. He is constantly expanding the legacy of rhythm and blues with his music. He's so good on piano, guitar and harmonica that it's hard to decide which is his 'first' instrument. Johnny writes instant classics and sings them to break your heart and rock your soul.
