Arts & Entertainment

RI Children & the Arts Festival

This free one-day event will feature visual and performing arts, ethnic dance troupes, puppet theater, musicians and other groups, both as scheduled and interactive, on-going activities.  Children will be able to participate in expressive movement, face-painting, storytelling, drum circles, a free raffle and more.  All of the arts will be represented, including a gallery of local children’s artwork.

Featured entertainers at the Festival will be Mr. Deep Positivity and the Toe Jam Puppet Band. Mr. Deep Positivity is a positive role model who has performed for thousands of students. He was named one of the top one hundred unsigned artists of 2009 for the Urban Music Awards, and has received six citations for excellence in mentoring from the Governor of RI in 2006. He was named Big Brother of the year in 2003 and received a community service award in 2002. He is a Nonviolence and Nonviolent Verse Instructor and continues to support Big Brothers of Rhode Island.

The Toe Jam Puppet Band offers a special brand of hands-on children's entertainment that grown-ups can actually enjoy. The dynamic group is great with kids, but best when teachers or parents are having fun with the little ones. The performances are very active, encouraging kids and parents to sing and dance along with the band as they entertain with a unique combination of original songs, masterful shadow puppetry, storytelling and just plain old good fun.
