In beautiful Ninigret Park, artists and artisans will display and sell their art throughout the day. There will be photographs, oil paintings, watercolors, jewelry, pottery, cast and blown glass vessels, woodworking, tilework, shell creations, garden accessories, antique duck decoys, and much more.
At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Dr. Giovanni Fazio, a world-renowned astrophysicist who pioneered the development of gamma-ray astronomy, will take young and old on a tour of the Universe. His tour, entitled "Where Are We? Our Place in the Universe," will begin at our planet Earth, traveling through our Solar System and Galaxy, and ending at the edge of the known Universe. He promises a most beautiful and fascinating journey with lots of surprises!
In addition, the Ladies of the Rolling Pin will dance, and there will be live music by Heather Maloney and Sol Music.
In the food area, Matunuck Oyster Bar will serve lobster rolls, oysters, clams, and shrimp. Eddie’s BBQ will serve pulled pork and BBQ chicken, eggplant and tofu and all the fixings. There will be hot dogs, burgers, ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and lemonade.
Finally, there will be demonstrations of fish printing, weaving, and making honey; observations of the Sun with Sunspotters; and children's activities.
Funds raised will support environmental education for children and adults and help to keep the Frosty Drew Observatory open to the public.
Admission is free, access is easy (right off Route 1), and there is plenty of parking.
