SENSE OF PLACE - Painting the Architecture of Native Plants

Workshop instructor Frances Topping is a trained botanical and landscape artist working in watercolor. Plants provide us with a variety of shapes and imagery, close up and delicate, or more distant and bold, providing a range of inspiration for the painter. She will demonstrate  techinques and methodology for interpreting these forms, familiar yet unusual, followed by individual painting and personalized instruction. Demonstrations will be in watercolor; participants may work in any media of choice. All levels welcome.

The Anna Richards Brewster Camp is on 35 acres of protected land located in Matunuck .3 miles west of route 1. The Nature Conservancy recently restored the original camp where noted impressionist artist AnnaRichards Brewster, daughter of William Trost Richards, spent summers painting from1904 to 1938. Cedar Swamp Pond is situated just to the south of the camp, surroundedby eastern white cedar, ferns, and a wealth of other native plants.
