EVENT OF THE DAY: Middle East Expertise

Discuss the events and people of the volatile Middle East directly from an expert in the region at the South Ferry Church, 170 S Ferry Road, today at 5 p.m.

Dr. Dennis W. Michaud, president of Providence Consulting Group, an expert on the Middle East, will share his experiences celebrating Ramadan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and discuss what's on the minds of those in that region.

Michaud is the latest in a series of speakers that make up the church's 9th Annual Summer Lecture Series. The reaining schedule includes

• Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 — Dr. John H. Maurer, chair of the Strategy and Policy Department at the Naval War College.  Dr. Maurer will give his well-known talk, “FDR, Churchill and the Road to Pearl Harbor – Lessons for Today.”

• Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 — Jim Taricani, award-winning investigative reporter for WJAR-TV, NBC 10 in Providence.  Taricani will discuss the latest news events as well as the issues facing journalists today.
