Flash Flood Risk In Rhode Island For Evening Storms

PROVIDENCE, RI — After a dry start to the day, heavy rain is on the way to Rhode Island Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service declared a flash flood watch statewide from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.

Rain is expected to arrive after 3 p.m., becoming heavy in the overnight hours. Between one and three inches of rain are expected, though some areas could see as much as four inches of rain by Thursday morning.

Heavy rainfall could cause localized street flooding and rapid rises in small streams and creeks, the Coventry Emergency Management Agency warned.

Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 64. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a high near 72. Northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
