Family Friendly programs for all ages provided by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Community Artists Program

In a continuing effort to connect visitors to nature, the Community Artists Program displays nature inspired artwork at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center in Charlestown. Join us at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center all month to celebrate January’s showcased community artist, whose work will be displayed for the entire month and is viewable by the public 7-day a week from 10am-4pm. This month’s artwork will feature paintings by Jonathan Nickerson. Join us weekly at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center for a story time that is sure to be great fun for the youngest of naturalists. Volunteer Cynthia Reiser will share a nature-based story followed by fun activities like finger plays as well as arts & crafts. Valentines Day with the Wolves

This program will start with a brief presentation about wolf behavior and how scientists track populations and their movement. The presentation will be followed by a showing of the movie Alpha & Omega while making and decorating sugar cookies. Tea and hot chocolate will be provided. Coastal Images: The Beauty of Winter at the Barn Island Wildlife Management Area

The visiting artist, Jon Nickerson from Stonington, Connecticut, will present photographic images and discuss his approach to creating a winter-scape oil painting. Jon’s most recent painting titled, Barn Island Winter, will be on exhibit with many of his other representational paintings of coastal images.
