Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: Ryan has been two years ahead in math since the fifth grade. As a sophomore, he took AP Calculus and since then has been doing a concurrent enrollment at URI yielding him a total of 31 credits to date!
His stellar math ability earned him a recent nomination into Pi Mu Epsilon, a national honorary mathematics society founded in 1914, with chapters on more than 150 campuses and a membership of more than 30,000.
The University of Rhode Island's chapter is called Rhode Island Alpha, and was established in 1961. His math professor nominated him for the PME membership because he was top of the class in his 300 Level Calculus class at URI.
In addition, Ryan has also been nominated and accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at URI.
When he’s not crunching numbers and formulas, he enjoys karate and programming. In summer’s past he has worked for the SEAP internship program at the Newport Navy Base, but in preparation for college this fall, he’s taking a well-deserved summer off.
He will be leaving for Georgia Tech in August to pursue a double major in Math and Computer Science.
Ryan is a wonderful example of a student who sets the bar high and strives to formulate an equation that equals success. Congratulations to him and his classmates that are graduating from NHS later this week!
