How Narragansett-SK Voted In The March 2 Special Election

All seven of the statewide budget questions were approved by Rhode Island voters.

NARRAGANSETT-SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Rhode Island voters went to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots concerning seven statewide budget questions. All seven questions were approved.

In Narragansett and South Kingstown, voters followed the statewide trend by approving all seven questions. A breakdown of votes by question and type is listed below.


Question One

$107.3 million for higher education, including $57.3 million for a fine arts center at URI, $38 million for the Clarke Science Building at RIC and $12 million to renovate CCRI's campuses.

  • Approve: 1,406 votes, 59.5 percent
  • Reject: 957 votes, 40.5 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 2,953 votes, 63.6 percent
  • Reject: 1,692 votes, 36.4 percent

Question Two

$74 million for environment and recreational projects, a total of $10 million over the governor's original proposal.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,874 votes, 79.3 percent
  • Reject: 489 votes, 20.7 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 3,627 votes, 78.2 percent
  • Reject: 1,011 votes, 21.8 percent

Question Three

$65 million for affordable housing, an increase of $40 million over the original proposal, included in the amendment offered by the governor in July.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,466 votes, 62.6 percent
  • Reject: 876 votes, 37.4 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 3,090 votes, 66.8 percent
  • Reject: 1,536 votes, 33.2 percent

Question Four

$71.7 million for transportation initiatives.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,905 votes, 80.4 percent
  • Reject: 463 votes, 19.6 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 3,697 votes, 79.6 percent
  • Reject: 949 votes, 20.4 percent

Question Five

$15 million for early childhood care and the educational capital fund.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,524 votes, 64.5 percent
  • Reject: 840 votes, 35.5 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 3,098 votes, 66.7 percent
  • Reject: 1,548 votes, 33.3 percent

Question Six

$7 million for arts and cultural infrastructure, including $6 million for the cultural arts and economy grant program, and $1 million for the state preservation grants program.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,369 votes, 58 percent
  • Reject: 992 votes, 42 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 2,843 votes, 61.3 percent
  • Reject: 1,797 votes, 38.7 percent

Question Seven

$60 million for commerce infrastructure, including $20 million for the Port of Davisville at Quonset and $40 million for industrial site development.

Narragansett

  • Approve: 1,458 votes, 62 percent
  • Reject: 893 votes, 38 percent

South Kingstown

  • Approve: 2,806 votes, 60.7 percent
  • Reject: 1,815 votes, 39.3 percent
