Narragansett Elementary Students Recycle 3,000 Plastic Bags

NES second graders send over 3000 plastic bags to the recycling bin

Narragansett Elementary School (NES) second graders in Mrs. Mitchell’s class organized a plastic bag collection drive in order to promote awareness of recycling and pollution. Through the month of March, students manned a collection point at the school entrance and encouraged everyone to bring in their plastic recyclable bags. The drive marked the conclusion of a unit of study focusing on ocean pollution.

At the end of the collection period, Mrs. Mitchell’s class was joined by Mrs. McCallig’s second graders and the bags were counted and prepared to be sent off for recycling. Students broke into groups in the school cafeteria and completed their final tally of over 3000 bags.
