Narragansett Pack 29 Sends Webelo II's to Boy Scouts

Narragansett Pack 29's Webelo II's earned their Arrows of Light and moved into the ranks of the Boy Scouts.

In a "crossing over" ceremony Tuesday night at the Narragansett Pier School, eight of Narragansett's Pack 29 Webelo II Cub Scouts officially moved on to become Boy Scouts.

Tigers, wolves and bears were all in attendance – the Scout Dens that is – to celebrate the Webelo II's achievements. Before the ceremony began, crockpots full of homemade food and trays of scout themed cakes and cookies were brought in for a Pack dinner.

Raffle tickets were given to each scout, and drawings held throughout the night gave the boys a chance to win candy or participate in a special grand prize.

The lucky grand prize winners, along with the two top-grossing popcorn salesmen, each won whipped cream pies to throw at den leader and Mike Millen. His previous no-pie-to-the-face streak (yes, he has volunteered for this many times in the past) came to an end as the final contestant landed his pie tin of whipped cream right on target.

Post-pieing, it was time to honor the Webelo II's with their hard-earned transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. The proud den leader, William Corson, presented the Webelo II's eight members – Christian Bourbonnais, Gavin Carey, William Corson, Joseph Miller, Brendan Movicas, Nicholas Niles, John Tower and Bryce Johnson – with the Arrow of Light, the highest award a Cub Scout can achieve.

Accompanied by their parents, the Scouts then crossed over, both literally and figuratively, to the Boy Scouts. They were welcomed into their new troop, Narragansett Troop 1, with a warm handshake and a new neckerchief.

"It should be fun!" Nicholas Niles said about becoming a Boy Scout. "I am excited to learn about knots, how to use an ax and to go camping."

The Scouts always welcome new members, and more information about joining can be found on the Boy Scouts of America website
