Narragansett Man Arrested for Domestic Assault

Lawrence J. McPhillips, 51, of 21 Jennifer Court, Narragansett, was arrested at about 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with domestic assault.

According to police, at about 6 p.m. they received a report from a 51-year-old woman that a man had put his hands on her throat. A dispatcher said that the woman then called back and tried to cancel the police response, saying she was all set.

Police said when they arrived at the house, the caller met with them and said she didn’t want McPhillips arrested. She told police that while he had pushed her down and grabbed her throat, she didn’t want him arrested or “for this to be in the newspaper,” according to police reports.

Police said in an interview, McPhillips told them that he and the woman were arguing over a text message sent from a BlackBerry cell phone. He denied sending it because he didn’t own a BlackBerry. He told police that he put his hand on the woman’s neck to prevent her from walking closer to him.

Police told the woman that because she had called 911 and because McPhillips had placed his hands on her throat, he had to be arrested. He was without incident and transported to police headquarters. McPhillips was arraigned before a justice of the peace at 9:30 p.m. and released. He is scheduled to appear in Fourth Division District Court on Sept. 6.

Providence Man Arrested for Suspended License

Charles Rodriguez, 21, of 20 Carr St., Providence, was arrested at about 1:41 a.m. on Aug. 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license. According to police reports, Rodriguez is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road near the Route 1 on-ramp saw a gold Volvo being driven by Rodriguez without a front license plate. A traffic stop was made on Route 1-North just before the Wakefield exit.

Police said a background check revealed that Rodriguez’s license had been suspended. He was arrested without incident. A friend in the car – an 18-year-old Providence woman – was allowed to drive the car from the scene after providing police with an active license.

Narragansett Woman Arrested for Suspended License

Tracy A. Anderson, 44, of 144 South Pier Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer patrolling on South Pier Road saw a gray Kia traveling east with the rear brake and tail lights out. A traffic stop was made as a result.

Police said a background check revealed that the driver, Anderson, had a suspended license. She was placed under arrest.

According to police, the passenger – a 46-year-old woman – got out of the car during Anderson’s arrest and told police, “Her family [Anderson’s] was being harassed.” Police told her to return to the car.

A check of the passenger’s background revealed no warrants and an active license, and she was allowed to drive the car from the scene. Anderson was arraigned and released at 8:16 p.m.

Anderson was arrested in April by Narragansett police and charged with a felony, exploitation of an elderly person with severe handicaps, according to The Narragansett Times and several other outlets. At the time, her son was also arrested for possession of marijuana after police search her home.

A motion to dismiss and a pre-trial conference for Anderson’s felony case is scheduled for Sept. 7 in Washington County Superior Court.
