Narragansett Still In The Lead After Night Five Of Lifeguard Games

As the 2011 RI Lifeguard Tournaments continued last night at Scarborough Beach, Narraganset Town Beach took first in the men's and women's medley and placed at second and third in the women's and men's torp relay.

It’s Friday night at about 6:45 p.m.; the setting is Scarborough State Beach and it’s the second-to-last night of the Rhode Island Lifeguard Tournament. It’s getting down the wire and there is only two more nights for teams to compete and get points before a winner is declared for the week.

The evening began with the men’s and women’s medley in which teams had a different person swim, paddle, row and run. Each team member would tag the next person on his or her team to begin the next activity. In both the men’s and women’s medley, Narragansett Town Beach took first place, with Westerly Town Beach taking second place in both. Second Beach took third in the men’s relay and Scarborough State Beach placed third in the women’s relay.

The second and last competition of the night was the men’s and women’s torp relay, in which lifeguards from each beach lined up in five lines and passed the torp (a lifeguard's flotation device) from team member to team member as they raced to the finish line. In the women’s torp relay, Westerly Town Beach took first place, with Scarborough and Narragansett coming in second and third. In the men’s, Roger Wheeler State Beach took first, with Narragansett and Scarborough coming in second and third.
