Narragansett vs. Slater Basketball Live Blog
Blogging live from the middle school state championships.
9:10 p.m. – Slater completed a huge third quarter comeback in overtime to win the middle school state championship 54-51.
At one point, the Spartans were down by 17 points. However, Cedric Dalomba personified the famous expression by former Boston Celtic and NBA Finals MVP Cedric Maxwell – Climb on my back, boys.
Dalomba finished with 37 points, 23 coming in the second half and overtime.

The Mariners Joseph Sekator matched him for much of the second half, but the key play in overtime came off a Narragansett turnover with less than a minute remaining. A long 25-foot heave by the Mariners fell short of the basket.

7:40 p.m. – At halftime, the Mariners trail the Spartans 19-15.
It was a choppy first half of play, as both teams struggled to maintain possession and convert easy buckets. Adric Dalomba of Slater leads all scorers with 14 of Slater’s 19 points.
For the Mariners, Chris DiClemente has struggled in the early going, but still shares the team lead in points with seven. Tyrell Smith also has seven, all in the second quarter. Deontae Stanley also has a point.
6:30 p.m. – At about 5:50 p.m., the Narragansett Mariners made their way into the site of the middle school championships, the Bay View Academy in Riverside.
The Pier School cheerleaders are also in tow, and two fan buses are scheduled to leave from the school at 5:45 p.m., giving them plenty of time to get here for the 7 p.m. tip-off. Also in attendance now are scattered members of the girls’ team and families – The McKannas, the Sahagians and others.
Right now, Scituate and Gallagher Middle School of Smithfield are playing in the girls’ final, which started at 5 p.m. At the end of three quarters, Smithfield leads 29-23.
